Profile of Emily Guo

Written by Stella Signorelli

Emily Guo is a four-year senior currently living in Dow Residence Hall and majoring in Visual Arts. She’s originally from Northern Virginia, but she considers it a suburb of Washington, D.C., because of how close it is.

She has a love for Formula One—which originally started with aviation, then shifted to motors, and then to cars. Her current favorite driver is Max Verstappen, the racer for Red Bull Racing.

Emily’s favorite movie is Top Gun: Maverick and her favorite TV show is Transformers: Prime, which she remembers from her childhood extremely fondly. She enjoys exercise and playing sports, specifically volleyball, but during the weekends her favorite activity is sleeping.

Emily’s Visual Arts thesis is constantly growing and changing; her artwork talks about the liminal space she created for herself during her childhood due to her experience of being an only child and using her imagination. Emily’s biggest motivation is her grandfather, stating, “He’s dead and I didn’t meet him, but he’s chill.”

She also mentioned that while people tell her that she is funny, she likes to describe herself as thoughtful. Emily considers making friends her biggest achievement. Her biggest weakness is procrastination. However, she always gets the work done, and it ends up being good nonetheless.

She also has experience working in collaborative projects, specifically the Visual Art’s Concourse/Alcove project, otherwise known as “Elaine Week.”

She noted about this project, “It was fun, but stressful. I did a lot of painting and I’m pretty sure I had to yell at my teammates at some point.” When asked what she was hoping to get out of participating in the Interlochen Times, Emily jokingly said, “Fame.” Her real answer is to be determined, but may be revealed as the year continues and this newspaper starts publishing issues.
