Profile of Bianca Chen
Written by Alex Workman
Bianca Chen is an Interdisciplinary Arts major from Beijing, China. She has been at IAA since her freshman year. Bianca came to IAA to pursue her love for the arts as she felt “her life needed art.” From a young age, she was surrounded by art as her mother would take her to different performances each week, even if it meant driving hours to get there.
As an Interdisciplinary Arts student, Bianca explores many different kinds of art, such as classical composition, dance, visual art, film, and poetry. Bianca’s art also reflects her personal values, such as compassion and gratitude. She notices issues around her and uses her art to bring people together. For example, she would volunteer at senior homes, schools, and events to play music and share her art. In the future, Bianca hopes to work in a nonprofit organization and travel around the world to experience as many cultures as she can.
During her senior year, Bianca’s goal is focusing on college applications while still being able to immerse herself in the artistic opportunities around her. A challenge she has come across this year is a 7:30 a.m. (or zero hour) class. While it is difficult, her previous experience at IAA helped her manage her time effectively.
To get away from her work, Bianca loves to take walks on campus. She said, “I love sitting by the lake, it helps me relax.” Bianca is looking forward to the exciting activities for seniors at the end of the year, and for college applications to be thoroughly completed.
