Profile of Alex Workman

Written by Bianca Chen

Alex Workman is a second-year senior Classical Violin major from Greenville, a small town in North Carolina with a supportive music community.

Growing up, Alex would often watch chamber recitals in her hometown, and took on a love for music through studying with an encouraging music teacher. Beginning violin lessons at three years old, Alex’s violin playing draws inspiration from her three sisters, her teacher, experiences in dance, and the musical environment around her, all of which prompted her to come to IAA to continue advancing her violin skills.

Alex aspires to continue her musical pursuits in college and beyond. This year, she hopes to focus on college applications with the intention of finding a violin teacher who she can connect with, and, at the same time, serve as a leader in her violin studio.

“I hope to provide the same kind of support I received from the seniors before me,” Alex said, advising the underclassmen Music majors to take advantage of their free periods and use them for practicing, with a goal to inspire the younger students in her studio and provide the same kind of guidance she received from the seniors last year.

Besides music, Alex loves organizing: from decorating her room to playlists, books, and shows. She also enjoys learning about the government, and gaining insights on what is happening in our world as well as how those decisions and the larger society are affecting us as a community. She hopes to be a part of the Interlochen Times to engage in the current events and build meaningful connections.
