Profile of Jad Ibrahim
Written by Jayan Raju
As a three-year post-graduate student, Jad Ibrahim is a passionate Violin Performance major in the artistic community of IAA. Jad is applying to music conservatories around the world this fall to pursue his love for violin at a higher level. Along with the excitement and anticipation of college auditions, Jad also has the brilliant opportunity to audition for a chance to play with Yo-Yo Ma during the “Imagine US” tour. The tour starts March 7, and Symphony No. 4 by Charles Ives, alongside other works, will be performed.
Jad has a busy day-to-day life that involves practice, academics, and orchestra. He begins his day by waking up very early to practice, working hard at his art form. He then attends his academic classes, where he explores the world of math and science. He continues his day at Pinecrest Cafeteria, fueling up for an afternoon of orchestra.
Coming from Syria, Jad notices a lot of differences between his home and IAA. He mentions that the food is very different, and that the portions are a lot larger in Syria. And, of course, Jad said that it is “much, much colder here!” Jad is surprised by the pressure to prove himself, what it’s like to live with a roommate, and all of the demanding daily responsibilities.
Overall, Jad has experienced a beautiful three years at IAA. He gets to study with world-class instructors and get to know a lot of kind and talented people. On advice to new students, Jad said, “Listen to all of your instructors’ advice and be positive. Try to invest in every opportunity you get, use every opportunity as a tool for your bright future.” Jad is very excited for the rest of his senior year and his future as a musician!
