Profile of Alexander Zampedri
Written by Ema Bekic
Alexander Zampedri is a first-year senior Classical Voice major from Hershey, Pennsylvania, who’s very excited to be a part of the Interlochen Times this year.
He came to IAA after having a great experience at the Classical Voice intensive. At one point, there was a bear on campus, and while they were sheltering in the building, Dr. Laura Osgood Brown, an Opera instructor, told him to apply to the Academy. In Alex’s words, “I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for that bear.”
Alex grew up as someone who loved both the violin and singing. However, he was convinced to pursue singing after hearing a piece from Luciano Pavarotti, his greatest inspiration, who, he says, is “the greatest tenor to ever touch planet Earth.” He can’t wait to achieve his goals here at IAA, where his favorite part about the campus is the gorgeous scenery. “My town looks like Thneedville from the Lorax,” he said, when asked why he’s so drawn to it. “My town is like beige paint, and Interlochen is a light blue.”
He also really likes the various class options at IAA, which brought him to Current Events and Journalism. He is interested in writing about the choral events on campus and learning more about the various voices present in news outlets.
Outside of his major, he enjoys playing various card games, chess, and Uno, along with Mario Kart. After IAA, Alex sees himself continuing his love for classical voice at college, where he hopes to one day perform at the Metropolitan Opera.
